The first advanced Social Media Breakfast Austin for experienced social media experts explored how social, cultural and technological trends provoked by the social media explosion are transforming the business environment.
Overlooking downtown Austin from the Dachis Group’s headquarters, Peter Kim the chief strategy officer for Austin-based Dachis Goup and co-author of the soon to be released book Social Business By Design, shared insights on how the social, cultural, and technological trends of the social media explosion is transforming the business environment.
According to Kim, social media has been responsible for “business moving from institutions to communities. The Internet has is a tool that is responsible for better ways to live as well as work.”

More than 35 social media professionals listened to Kim’s 10 Tenets of Social Business, and how to analyze the various tools of social media strategy: social media marketing, social product development, crowdsourcing and social customer research management.
Business needs to choose and implement a social business strategy to maximize its impact. Kim gave examples of how choosing the right social media strategy at the right time helped such companies as Best Busy, Virgin Atlantic and IBM.
According to Kim up to now, most organizations have received a “pass” from executive teams when asked to justify the value of online social engagement spend.
As social becomes a powerful mainstream component of the marketing mix, organizations need to know how their social investments perform, requiring deeper insight beyond the superficial metrics of likes, followers and “superusers”.
